The Sense of Contentment

What makes us happy? Is it the love of a family? Company of good friends? A fulfilling career? Or supporting spouses? A lot of people seem to have ticked a few or most of these options but they still look miserable. This sense of contentment, where does it come from? Should one set goals for it? Do these goals vary for everybody? A positive attitude, staying healthy or practicing mindfulness - do these even work?

Our mind works in mysterious ways and we seem to be pissed about the things we don’t have rather than being happy about the things we own. It’s good to be ambitious but I think every now and then we should look back and ponder about our ‘character arc,’ because that’s what we are - a character in our own stories. We'd like to be the 'Hero' in this story - someone who has figured everything out by the end of the movie or at least is on the right path.

Think about this over a cup of coffee or whatever your favourite beverage is 😀 and know that without coffee, there would be a lot more hate in this world.

A rant about our right to love !!

It is not acknowledged enough how a few events in your life make you a different, even a difficult person to interact with. You loose a close family member or go through a painful career transition, you are expected to handle it ‘smoothly’ otherwise you are not grieving right or you are not ‘strong enough.’ You are often reminded how you are not the only one going through it. The society and everyone around us has made these invisible rules and you are expected to function, love and grieve within these rules.

We talk about right to our privacy and our opinions, how about our right to love or to grieve? But I guess, the society that we live in, has to evolve so much to even comprehend it, that by the time we achieve any of this, it will end up making millions of people sad, depressed and lonely.
